T-Mobile is being a collective asshat. It's threatening to sue Engadget by claiming, ridiculously enough, that the website is infringing on T-Mobile's use of the color magenta.
So, GearBits is painting itself magenta for the day in an act of solidarity against such stupid abuse of intellectual property laws.
Ha! nice work, keep it up.
^o^ Haha, just ridiculous~
I wasn't aware you could copywrite a color that has existed since the dawn of time. Unless...but no...could T Mobile be...GOD???
Sasha: Actually, it's part of T-Mobile's trademark, not a patent or copyright.
Lol, Woot!
Cool! I remember they've done so with a small german firma for webdesign!! Lately they won, because they had too litle money for the expencive legal action. Lately they went bankrupt, and why? Just because they had a "T" in their name! What if the big companys block all the main colors? What if they block all letters? Will they take us all to court? Somehow I feel like in the kindergarten!!!
(Sorry for my bad english)
maybe tmobile should channel all of their energy into putting out their 3g network instead of stupid bulling like this. so you own the color magenta and? that's like the gayest shade of pink
What...as opposed to all those manly shades of pink?
Colors can be trademarked but defending the trademark is an uphill battle. See Qualitex Co. v. Jacobson Products Co., Inc. at Wikipedia for details and a link to the full text of the Supreme Court decision.
i read the original letter from T-M and never saw any threat to sue anyone - just a request. being able to read between the lines we all know where this COULD lead if one decided to behave childishly...
Good news - TM violations are NOTORIOUSLY difficult to prove... T-mobile is just being huffy for the sake of being huffy. Congrats on sticking together though!
LA Lawyer,
Nicole
you stole my colour... give it back!
t-mobile's service sucks anways. fuck them! goodjob guys
Instead of adding more Towers in Florida or in New York they're playing lawsuit with tech websites. T-Mobile get over it. For arguments sake why not just start suing the likes of ADOBE PHOTOSHOP for having the color magenta on their palette.
I can't wait to see T-M send a cease-and-desist letter to HP, Canon, and Epson, telling them they can't use Magenta inks in their inkjet printers anymore. It will be interesting to see how T-M is going to print their marketing collateral on CMYK printers that suddenly become C_YK printers. =-)
Lol I can't believe you mother fuckers. You really think you can fuck with TMobile? You fuckin serious?
I'm going to destroy the internet.

Fuck tmobile. they can suck my magenta cock!
Great job taking part in the campaign!
Taptu's already magenta through and through, but here's our contribution:

Craig:
There really isn't a battle here that would have to take place uphill... this is there will be no battle TMo has no ground to stand on.
The court case you pointed out would be a valid lawsuit over the use of colors because they are both in the same business and are competitors. Whereas TMo and Engadget are very different because Engadget doesn't sell phones, nor does it really sell anything other then ad space.
that is telecom, typical german...
It is estimated that the human eye can recognize around 10 million different colors. So unless Tmobile has a color expert that has professionaly verified both colors are magenta I believe they are different colors; therefore tmobile has no basis for argument!
