The Funniest Movies of All Time

A friend and I were debating this very question: what are the funniest movies of all time?

By that, I don't mean what are the best comedy movies. I mean which movies made me laugh the most.

We agreed on some and disagreed on others. Here's my initial short list, in chronological order.

"Young Frankenstein" gave me nightmares when I saw it as a child. I think my parents pushed it a bit by taking me to see it. I've avoided it to this day.

Rachel, I think it's safe to say that you've nothing to fear. By the end of the movie, you'll be laughing so hard that there will be no memory of it frightening you. :-)

A few others I considered, but decided didn't quite make the cut were:
- Shaun of the Dead
- Army of Darkness
- Stripes
- It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
- Murder by Death

I always thought Top Secret was funny as well!

Nice list, BTW... I agree with every single entry!

I heard '40-Year-Old Virgin' was really funny....anybody see that?

Hi Craig:

How about Spinal Tap and Best in Show. Those are my favorites!

Hi, Anna! Yep, Spinal Tap is on my list! Best in Show, along with Waiting for Guffman and A Mighty Wind are all terrific funny movies. I think they might be a bit cerebral, so the humor is kind of low-level but continuous. Just my theory. :-)

What about these?

Duck Soup
Annie Hall
There's Something about Mary
Planes Trains and Automobiles
Its a MAD MAD MAD MAD World
When Harry met Sally
Clerks
Top Secret

By far..the funniest movie I have EVER seen(I had to leave the theater 3 times--I was laughing so hard--I could not breathe) was "Crazy People" with Dudley Moore and Paul Reiser!

Office space is the most under-rated comedy.

I agree with most of that list, but two I think should have been not only up there but in the top five are Monty Python's other classic master piece, Life of Brian, and Kentucky Fried Movie, which was written by the people who wrote Airplane! and The Naked Gun. Those movies are even funnier than some of the more famous works by their creators. There aren't too many movies that have made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe, but those two did.

'Kentucky Fried Movie' is indeed hilarious. A similar film to that, also funny, is 'Amazon Women on the Moon.'

AIRPLANE takes the cake 4 me... nothing is funnier than... looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinkin...or looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue...
