PalmSource Sells WeSync
I was just sent an email announcement stating that PalmSource has sold the WeSync group calendaring/contact system to Tanner Research.
WeSync is a shared calendar and contact data management system. It permits users of Palm OS devices to sync multiple devices and/or PCs (desktops and laptops) to the same server-based PIM (personal information management) database. This facilitates coordinating schedules and common address books within households and small groups.
WeSync was purchased by Palm back in 2000. It was supported (barely) for about two years. Then, support and new memberships were discontinued on October 18, 2002. Since then, the WeSync system has been on life support, allowing existing users to sync their calendar and contact data, but not permitting new users and not providing any user support.
As a long-time (and current) WeSync user, I look at this announcement with great anticipation. The Palm OS community has long needed a shared PIM system that is reliable, scalable, and easy to use. WeSync is by far the closest thing out there currently. My hope is that this sale will enable the system to be maintained for the foreseeable future.

Posted by lux at March 16, 2004 12:57 PMYes, indeed, good news. Nothing else works as seamlessly as WeSync for calendar and contact sharing, and the desktop Windows client is pretty darned good. We've stuck with my old Palms because the OS5 client (although working) never did ship, and if Tanner does release the OS5 client, I will be shopping for a new Palm in short order.
Posted by John Bartley K7AAY at March 16, 2004 02:43 PMI bought a new Palm T3 and I can synchronise my Palm T3 with Palm desktop new software and also Wesync release 1.55. This is made in two stages. On the first stage, the Palm T3 is synchronize with the software Palm Desktop but refuse to do with Wesync. On the second stage, the Palm Desktop software demand if we want synchronise with Wesync release 1.55 and accept to do, only if we accept than the Palm desktop take the place of the Palm T3. After this two synchronisations, the Palm T3 and the data on the software Wesync 1.55 have the same calendar. It's not easy but it work. Now I can use my two PALM (m515 and T3) with the same calendar but the synchonisation must be made on two separate computers with two different Palm Desktop software. I dont try to synchronise the contact Wesync with my Palm T3
But I hope a new Wesync Software for Palm OS 5 because I would be more secure. I always use my Palm m515 with it's compatible with a SmartPad then I cannot do the same things with the Palm T3 or I don't know how.
